An Agora in Downtown Brooklyn
The South Plaza at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) is a modern urban square. Designed for maximum flexibility, the plaza hosts programming including theatrical performances, films, pop-up markets, and dining. The inviting open space offers a reprieve from the dense development and high energy of Downtown Brooklyn—providing an opportunity to sit, gather, eat, or simply take a breath.
As with so much of Grain’s portfolio, the BAM Plaza was designed with sustainability in mind. Green elements include light-colored paving stone to minimize heat absorption, permeable paving to capture water at planting areas, and dark sky-compliant lighting. Self-sustaining, wildlife-supporting native plantings were selected, offering shade and access to nature.

Our human-centered approach focuses on the end users,
creating value and joy while solving real problems.
